Freda “Freddie” Tate, 87, of Elon, NC passed away at her residence on Monday, November 6, 2023.
A native of Caswell County, NC, she was the daughter of Joseph Tenon Tate and Pearl Terrell Tate, both deceased. She is survived by her sister, Glenda Tate with whom she resided; her aunt, Mary Terrell Menefee of Daniel Island, SC; and many cousins.
Freddie attended Elon College and received a Secretarial Science Certificate. She was employed with Western Electric and AT&T in various divisions and retired after 40 years of service. She was a Caswell County Volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and a volunteer with the American Red Cross-Piedmont Chapter Blood Services Committee serving as Coordinator for Blood Drives for Caswell County. Freddie was a member of Concord Christian Church in Caswell County, NC where she served as Secretary and Historian for 40 years.
Freddie was a 22-year survivor of an aggressive rare Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Her survival has been credited to Dr. Janak Choksi, Dr. Larry Crawford, and Dr. George Rinker for the care and treatment given to Freddie.
A graveside service will be conducted at Concord Christian Church Cemetery in Caswell County on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Steve Hinton with the family receiving friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
