ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Archie L. Howard, 520 Timmons St., died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at age 89. He was the husband of Edith Rainy Howard of St. Simons Island, and is predeceased by his first wife, Nan Wilhelm Howard. He was a son of the late Robert Bruce and Mary Howard. He was a longtime employee in the textile industry, having worked for Louis P. Batson Company locally and retiring from Barber-Colman Company. Surviving are his wife Edith, two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry L. and Zora Howard of Irmo, S.C., and Don L. and Constance Howard of Greenville; stepchildren, Kitty Starnes of St. Simons Island, Rebecca Gregg of Carmichael, Calif., and Ray Gregg of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Hunter of Burlington; two brothers, Harry A. Howard of Graham and David Banks “Bill” Howard of Haw River; four grandchildren, Laura Kaiser and husband Allen of Irmo, S.C., Chris Howard and wife Diana of Columbia, S.C., Matthew Howard and Stephen Howard, both of Greenville, S.C., and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Alamance Regional Memorial Park.3, Archie L. Howard
