GIBSONVILLE - Howard Vance Oliver, 82, passed away Saturday January 2, 2021 at the Hospice Home. He was born March 6, 1938 in Guilford County to the late William Thomas and Heneretta Bradner Oliver and was married to Dora Shular Oliver for 60 years.
Vance retired from NC DOT as a truck driver. He was a member of the Baptist Temple. He enjoyed drinking coffee and talking cars with his buddies. He loved working in his yard and his John Deere mower. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Dora Shular Oliver; daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Roney; son, Darrell (Christy) Oliver; grandchildren, Jessica (Alex) Roney-Barefield , Justin Oliver, Jordan Oliver; Two great-grandchildren; a sister Barbara Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Shelby Jean Jacobs; siblings, Wilson Oliver, Bradner Oliver, Roy Oliver, Tom Oliver, Matilda Frazier, Mary Jobe, Nancy Smith and Martha Key.
The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Don Carter. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. You are welcome to attend the service using masks and social distancing or you may watch it live on the funeral home’s website.
Mr. Oliver will be available for viewing 8:30 – 1:45 PM Tuesday prior to the funeral.

Dora Jean Shular Oliver, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Liberty Commons.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late William Albert Shular and Margaret Beatrice Shular and was married for over 61 years to Howard Vance Oliver who passed in 2021.
Dora was a faithful member of Baptist Temple where she attended for many years. She enjoyed being a part of the Silver Sneakers Club at the YMCA, making sure she kept a clean car, visits from her fur-grandbabies but most of all she loved spending time with and cooking for her family.
Dora is survived by her daughters; Teresa Roney and husband Kevin, son; Darrell Oliver and wife Christy, grandchildren; Jessica Roney-Barefield and husband Alex, Justin Oliver and wife April, Jordan Oliver, great grandchildren; Jackson, Madilyn, Carolina and Nevaeh, sisters; Mary Gregory, Betty Webster, Marie Howard, Norma Pratt and Bernice Johnson, brother; William A. Shular, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Howard Vance Oliver, daughter; Shelby Jean Jacobs and parents; William and Margaret Shular.
A service to celebrate Dora’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 14, 2023 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 prior to the service on Friday. [14397]
