Col. William Ready Watson Jr. (Ret.)
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. — Retired U.S. Army Col. William Ready Watson Jr., 74, husband of Dolly Norfleet Watson of Mt. Pleasant, died after a prolonged illness on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. Born Nov. 17, 1927, in Henderson, N.C., he was the son of William R. and Natalie Kammer Watson. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and a 1948 graduate of The Citadel. He was a member of The Charleston Citadel Club and the Brigadier Club. He served 28 years in the U.S. Army in both artillery and aviation divisions. His tours of duty include Korea, Salzburg, Austria and Vietnam. Awarded Medals include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Defense Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. He retired in 1975. He was an avid golfer and was a former co-owner of “The Golf Shack” in Mt. Pleasant. He was a longtime member of Snee Farm Golf Club and the Men’s Golf Association. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter and son-in-law, Robin (Mark) Watson Levy; sons and daughters-in-law, William R. (Joan) Watson III of Granville, Ill, Robert N. (Darlene) Watson of Elon, and Richard A. (Janet) Watson of Burlington; a sister, Dorothy V. Watson of Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Treasured by all who knew him, we were honored to have been loved, fathered and befriended by him. A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston with full military honors. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mt.
