Charles Buford Johnson
BURLINGTON — Charles Buford Johnson, 82, of 1444 Westbrook Ave., Elon, passed away at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Doris Whitesell Johnson and the son of the late Charles E. Johnson and the late Cora Griffi n Johnson. He was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church and retired with 36 years of service from Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro.
One of Charles’ heart-felt accomplishments was beginning Little League baseball at St. Mark’s Church in Burlington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Ora Idelle Smith; two sons, James Ronald Johnson and his wife, Joyce, of Gibsonville and the Rev. Rickard Neal Johnson and his wife, Tamra, of Burlington; one daughter, Kim Johnson Harper of Elon; fi ve grandchildren, Tracy Johnson, Lindsey Johnson Allison and husband, Andrew, Olivia Johnson, Charlie Harper and Matt Harper; and two greatgrandsons, Austin Andrew Allison and Clayton-James Neal Bell.
In addition to his parents and seven siblings , he is preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Marshall Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Rickard Neal Johnson and the Rev. Curtis Pruitt.
