James Clifton McPherson

   ELON — James Clifton McPherson, 85, of 1487 N.C. 87 North, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.

   Clifton was born in Snow Camp to the late Harvey and Maude Griffin McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Glenn McPherson and a young sister, Edith McPherson.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Laura Jane Kernodle McPherson; a daughter, LuAnn McPherson Allred and husband Kenneth of Elon and two grandchildren, Grayson and Alayna Allred.

   Mr. McPherson was a longtime member of Bethlehem Christian Church. He was a member of the Altamahaw-Ossipee Civitan Club, the Snow Camp American Legion Post 305, the Alamance County War Memorial Committee and the Care and Share Group at church, all in which he held many offices. He was named Civitan of the Year three times and was awarded the Club Honor Key.

   He was a graduate of Sylvan High School and Elon College, majoring in business. He retired from the accounting department of Kayser-Roth

   Hosiery Company after 35 years of service and was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War.

   The funeral will be held at Bethlehem Christian Church in Altamahaw, N.C., on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Dave Gilbert and the Rev. Matt Smith. Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, May 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. and at other times at the home.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Cemetery Fund in care of Eric Kernodle, 3540 N.C. 87 North, Elon, N.C. 27244 or to a charity of your choice.
