Obituary Online notes for Ola Frances MATLOCK
Ola Matlock Smith, age 99, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Randolph Hospice House.

Mrs. Smith was born in Rockingham County on January 5, 1919 to John Burgess and Annie Ware Matlock. She was a graduate of Curry High School and a 1943 graduate of Greensboro College where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She married Paul Albert Smith in August of 1944. Ola taught at Asheboro Junior High School and Asheboro High School and retired from Asheboro City Schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Blanche McGlohon Sunday School class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for a number of years. In addition to her parents, Ola was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Albert Smith, her six-week old son, Frederick Howell Smith, brother, Gordon Matlock, and sisters, Edith Hill, Ila Sue Matlock, and Una Griffin.

She is survived by her son, David Howell Smith and wife Lorraine of Asheboro; daughter, Martha Susan Smith Ragsdale of Asheboro; sister, Anne Schenck of Gainesville, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
