Obituary Online notes for LCpl. Danny Ray GODSEY
Danny the husband of Nancy J. Godsey and loving father of Donna D. Godsey, the son of Virgil Godsey of Indianapolis, and Ruth I. Godsey also of Indianapolis enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 15 1966 in Indianapolis Indiana. In Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company G, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of June the 2d Battalion continued with assigned combat operations in Quang Nam Province conducting Operation BROWN on Phu Ky Island and participating with two Companies on Operation CALHOUN.

On June 26, an explosion occurred among the first platoon command group in the vicinity of Tra Son (Hill 148) north of Alligator Lake. The explosion was caused by grenade pin being either pulled out during movement through heavy brush or fallen out by accident causing the explosion. Three Marines were killed and three were wounded, one of the casualties was LCpl Danny Godsey who was killed by the fragmentation wounds he sustained.
