Obituary Online notes for John Walter WAYNICK
GREENSBORO- John Walter Waynick, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006.
The funeral will be held at at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street Chapel with the Rev. David Partington, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Daniel Lewis and Alice Ware Waynick.
He attended Curry and Greensboro Senior High School, where he played basketball. He attended N.C. State University until his enlistment into the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He was one of the original members of the Gub Club, the first sponsor of the Greensboro Golf Open. His love of golf continued along with the support of his many senior golf buddies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Minerva Kenyon and brother Dan Waynick.
Survivors include his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Marie Craven Waynick; daughter Martha Waynick Weirich and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, Va.; granddaughters, Caroline Marie Weirich of Arlington, Va., and Kimberly Louise Weirich of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; sister Elizabeth Cannon of Chapel Hill and several nieces and nephews.
