Essie Mae Cox Patterson

REIDSVILLE — Essie Mae Cox Patterson, 79, of 2965 Swallow Road, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Annie Penn Hospital after suffering from a broken hip on Dec. 5, 2001.

A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Fulton and Rosie Wray Cox, and had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was retired from Burlington Industries and was of the Baptist faith. Her unconditional support and quiet strength will be missed daily by her family.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. James Benson Patterson Sr. of Burlington, Larry G. Patterson and wife, Shirley, of Reidsville and Ronald E. Patterson of Reidsville; three daughters, Sandra D. Patterson of the home, Susan P. Ellzey and husband, Wayne, of Stokesdale, and Sylvia P. Beamer and husband, Doug, of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren, Pattie Sue Patterson, Wayne Patterson, Shelia Meeks, Donald Patterson, Teresa Patterson, Pamela Singleton, Sherry Caslin, Heather Patterson, Matthew Ellzey, Zachary Ellzey, Randy Patterson, Eric Patterson, Ryan Patterson, and Cala Beamer; and 10 great-grandchildren.


Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Everett Patterson; two sons, Garland Wayne Patterson and Walter Donald Patterson; two grandsons, James B. Patterson Jr., and Darryl Ross Patterson; and two sisters, Mary Sue C. Wray and Ruth Cox Shreve.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Citty Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will see friends at Citty Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
