James Ervin Clapp
BROWN SUMMIT — James Ervin Clapp, 61, of 6622 High Rock Rd. died November 15, 2002 at his home after several months of failing health.
A native of Guilford Co., he was the son of the late Floyd D. Clapp, and the late Flossie Smith Clapp.

He was married to Mrs. Virginia Ruth Woodlief “Butch” Clapp of the home, who survives.

Mr. Clapp was employed by R.W. McCollum Co., Inc. in Greensboro for over 31 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was the owner and operator of Clapp Racing, which fielded cars for the Enduro and Street Stock classes. He was a race car driver at Ace Speedway and Carraway Speedway until 2000, when his son, Gary, took over driving duties.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Peggy Sue Stamey and her husband, Doug, of Randleman, Mrs. Laurie Clapp Way and her husband, Eddie, and Mrs. Wendy Clapp Underwood and her husband, Tim, both of Brown Summit; four sons, James “Jimmy” Ervin Clapp, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Travis Lee Clapp and his wife, Kim, both of Greensboro and Gary Wayne Clapp and James Allen Clapp both of Brown Summit; thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Cook, Mrs. Minnie Lynn, and Mrs. Imogene Harvell all of Brown Summit, and Mrs. Barbara Loman of Gibsonville; and one brother, Houston Eli Clapp of Lynwood, NC.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd D. Clapp, Jr.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, November 18, 2002 at Gospel Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Helms and the Rev. Jess Montegudo.

Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
