ROCKWELL | Eli Huston Clapp, 81, of Paul Road, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Gene Davis. Interment with military graveside rites will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Clapp was born in Guilford County on July 20, 1926, to Floyd D. Clapp and Flossie Smith Clapp. Mr. Clapp served in the U.S. Army and Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired employee of Winn Dixie and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Clapp and Stephanie Clapp, and a brother, James E. Clapp.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Overcash Clapp of Linwood; one daughter, Mary Barringer and her husband, Buddy, of the home; a stepson, Darrell Fleming of Lexington; four sisters, Pauline Clapp Cook and her husband, Charlie, Minnie Clapp Lynn, Barbara Clapp Loman and her husband, Winfred, and Imogene Clapp Harvell and her husband, Samuel, all of Brown Summit; a sister-in-law, Virginia Woodlief Clapp of Brown Summit; two grandchildren, Brittney Hulon and Joshua Ferguson; and two great-grandchildren, Destanie Hulon and Bobby Ferguson.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
