Franklin Ervin Loy


    ELON — Mr. Franklin Ervin Loy, age 94, of 725 Walker Road, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at his home after several months of failing health.
    Born in 1915 in Alamance County, he was the son of the late William Ervin Loy and the late Bettie Westmoreland Loy and was married for over 70 years to Mrs. Hazel Hudgins Loy, who survives.
    Heretired,withmorethan30 years service, from the Glen Raven Mills Altamahaw Plant and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville. After retirement, he worked for Bill Price Buick, for Mr. Price’s pony farm and also at the Triple Tree Farm. Throughout all his years he enjoyed teaching young people how to ride, care for and show their horses. Besides farming, he knew how to build and repair almost anything and enjoyed helping others. He was a man of his word and a good man.
Mr. Loy is survived by his wife, of the home; and two brothers, W.E. “Bill” Loy Jr. of Elon and Dewey Leige Loy of Paulsberg, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant child; four sisters, Josie Myrtle Loy Huey, Catherine
Leola Loy, Janice Loy Newman and Ruth Beatrice Loy; and six brothers, Howard Loy, Eugene Loy, Freeman Loy, Keith Loy, Leon Loy and Durward Loy.
    The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Shane Nixon. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Thursday prior to the service and at other times at the home of his brother, W.E. “Bill” Loy, 567 N. O’Kelly Street, Elon.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, 221 Piedmont Ave., Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
