William E. "Bill" Loy, Jr.
 

 
 ELON - William Ervin "Bill" Loy Jr., 95, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Edgewood Place.
 
 A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late William Ervin and Betty Ann Westmoreland Loy and husband of the late Elizabeth Apple Loy.
 
 Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, a retired supervisor at Western Electric Co., and was the co-founder and past Chief of the Elon Fire Department.
 
 In tribute to his generous support of the university, Loy was recognized in 2003 with the Elon Medallion, the highest honor the university bestows.
 
 He was an Army veteran of WW II and was involved in the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, one of the bloodiest battles fought during the war.
 
 Bill is survived by many family and friends who loved him dearly including his sister-in-law, Wilma Robertson Loy.
 
 He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters; Josie Loy Huey, Catherine Leola Loy, Janice Loy Newman and Ruth Beatrice Loy; brothers, Howard Loy, Eugene Loy, Freeman Loy, Keith Loy, Leon Loy, Durward Loy, Dewey Leige Loy and Franklin Ervin Loy.
 
 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Leo Lambert, Rev. Brian Ayers and Wilma R. Loy.
 
 Mr. Loy will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory through the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home.
 
 Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell; 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
