Bessie S. Lassiter

BURLINGTON - The most wonderful Mother and Grandmama in the world, Bessie Mae Saunders Lassiter, 82 of 3778 Mine Creek Road, Burlington, was called to Heaven by her Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Our Grandmama was an amazing mother and grandmother and will be truly missed by each of us.

If you asked her, she had three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren plus their spouses that were the greatest, most beautiful, kind and loving children in this world.

Her family was her life. Her love shined in us and all who were around her. Although her health was failing for several years she never changed her strong, joyful, joking self. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She never gave up her fight.

She was funny and loved to laugh and tell jokes or anything that would get a laugh or smile out of anyone that she was around. She never met a stranger.

She was born in Burlington to the late Leonard and Mary Danieley Saunders and lived in the same community with her precious, devoted husband, Currie Lee Lassiter for 65 years.

She is survived by her loving children Brenda (David) Wynne and Michael (Rhonda) Lassiter; her precious grandchildren, Dale (Amy) Mann, Mitch (Jennifer) Mann and Mary Catherine (Justin) Wicker; and the jewels of her life, her great-grandchildren, Austin (Caitlin) Mann, McKayla Mann, Maddux Mann, Londyn Mann, Ava Wicker, Charlotte Wicker; her special loving friends, Chris Roy, Susan Clayton, Connie Smith, SherriAube Anderson and devoted sister-inlaw, Barbara Saunders; her brother Bobby (Glenda) Saunders; sisters Barbara (Sam) Thompson, Peggy Pickard, Maggie (Jr.) Satterfield, Sara (Aubrey) Underwood and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter, Synthia Diane Lassiter; her brothers, Roy Saunders and Leonard Saunders, Jr., her sisters Annie C (Carl) Woody, Louise (Jim) Baker.

We will celebrate her life on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Community Church (101 Boone Rd. Burlington) by Rev. Gerald Sanders and Rev. Reid Dickens.

We will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The family will be at the home on Mine Creek Road.

We are heart broken and our lives will never be the same but our Mom and Grandmama would want us to be strong, to keep the bond of love that she gave us and move forward with love and compassion for others. We love you so much Mama (Grandmama) and we will never ever forget the loving person that you were. Rest easy and we will see you one special day.

In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to Lakeview Community Church or Hospice of Alamance-Caswell.

Heaven gained one of the most wonderful Fathers and PawPaws in this world. Currie Lee Lassiter, 92, was called to Heaven by the Lord on Sunday September 3, 2023.

PawPaw was a loving father and grandfather and will be truly missed by each of us.

Currie Lee was the loving husband of Bessie Lassiter who was waiting for him when he arrived at Heaven’s door. She was the love of his life for 65 years.

He was always a quiet and humble man who loved his family with all of his heart and would do anything for them. He was a hardworking and determined man and was employed with Burlington Industries Pioneer Plant for 45 years. He always loved working in his garden and riding his little red tractor. In his younger years, he had a love for golf. He was a member of Lakeview Civitan Club and worked many long hours helping to build the club house and ball field for the enjoyment of all of the children of the community.

He is survived by his loving children, Brenda (David) Wynne, Michael (Rhonda) Lassiter. His precious grandchildren, Dale (Amy) Mann, Mitch (Jennifer) Mann, Mary Catherine (Justin) Wicker. And the jewels that brought the smiles from him were his great grandchildren, Austin (Caitlin) Mann, McKayla (Jorrin) Mann, Maddux Mann, Londyn Mann, Ava Wicker, Charlotte Wicker and Great Great Granddaughter, McKinley Mann (little Bessie). His special caring and loving caregiver, Jan Phillips whom he loved dearly; sister, Carolyn Greer; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Lassiter, Barbara Saunders, Barbara Ann Thompson, Maggie Satterfield, Glenda Saunders and Peggy Pickard; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Swannie Lassiter; wife, Bessie; his infant daughter, Synthia Diane Lassiter; his brothers, Alfred Jr., John, Hal, Hulon Lassiter; sisters, Christine Rudd, Mary Bowman, Bettie Lou Cranford, Mattie Mae Self and Lois Porter.
