Obituary Online notes for William Paul SULLIVAN Jr.
After enduring a long illness, W. Paul Sullivan Jr., went to be with the Lord on the evening of June 17, 2008.
Paul, 61, was born in Burlington, NC, and was raised in Vero Beach.
Paul was a graduate of St. Leo College, and then moved to Brooksville in 1968 and remained since that time. Paul was a history teacher and coach at Hernando High School and Brooksville Junior High School in the 1960s and 1970s, coaching football, golf and soccer.
He transitioned his career to the insurance industry and was appointed as the Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Florida. Following this, he worked with the Hillsborough County Medical Association and was involved in the development of the healthcare industry in the surrounding areas. Paul had a love of history, particularly Florida history, and was instrumental in the creation of the Historical Advisory Commission in Hernando County, with the purpose of increasing the awareness of the importance of preserving local history. Paul was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brooksville, serving at one point as Chairman of the Board and President of United Methodist Men. Among other things, he will be remembered for his lifelong efforts to enrich the lives of those around him through his teaching, coaching, mentoring and church activities.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. R. Moody Troxler of Burlington, NC, and his father, William P. Sullivan Sr. of Columbia, SC. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Snow Sullivan of Brooksville; his mother, Mildred Troxler Sullivan, and brother, R. Christopher Sullivan and family, of Collierville, TN; his children, Katie Sullivan MacGregor, with her husband, Revill MacGregor, of Rock Hill, SC, W. Addison Sullivan, with his wife, Erin Sullivan, of Brooksville, Sallie Sullivan Crumbaker, with her husband, Brian Crumbaker, of Tallahassee; and precious grandchildren, Revill Sanders MacGregor Jr., of Rock Hill, SC, and Lexie Kate Crumbaker, of Tallahassee; and precious chocolate labrador retriever, Trilby. "Daddy Paul" will be fondly remembered also by the children of the Mount Fair Gang, whom he helped to raise.
There will be a visitation at Turner Funeral Homes Brooksville Chapel, Friday from 6-8 pm, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church of Brooksville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Brooksville and Hernando Pasco Hospice.
