Browns Summit

Joseph L. Bishop, 86, of Browns Summit passed away Tuesday August 5, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Cochran officiating.

A private family burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service and, at other times, at the home of his daughter, Tracey Bishop.

Joe was born in Guilford County to the late Grady and Evelyn Bishop.

He was a wonderful father and a good man through and through — master mechanic who could fix just about anything. Folks around Browns Summit knew him as the “fix‑it man,” and for a time, he even ran his own shop. He spent more than 40 years working at Baldwin Garrett Co. before retiring from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department. Joe was kind, soft‑spoken, and genuine. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Church, and truly lived out his faith every day.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Rumley Bishop; his son, Alan Bishop; his sister, Patsy Comer; and his brother, Fred Bishop.

He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Bishop; his son, Lee Bishop; and his daughter, Sarah Bishop; his brother, Frank Bishop, and his wife, Camille; grandchildren, Savannah Bishop, Nick Bishop and his wife, Heather, and Houston Whitson and her husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Angel Bartlett and Willa Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to his caretaker, Venessa Gray.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice organization in your community. 566, Joseph L. Bishop
