David Prichard
BURLINGTON — David was born on June 7, 1924, in Iredell County, North Carolina, and passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 15, 2011. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was married to Eva Sharpe Prichard of Hiddenite, N.C., for 54 wonderful years. Together they had three children: Jennifer Prichard Ashworth and her husband, Wiley, of Danville, Va.; David Rickey Prichard, and his wife Linda, of Greensboro, N.C., and Dr. Terry Lynn Prichard, and his wife Pam, of Asheboro, N.C. He was the grandfather of Jason Prichard and his wife, Beth, Kristen Ashworth, and Lucas Prichard, and the greatgrandfather to Alex Prichard.
The greatest thing that could be said of ‘Paw’ was that he was a devoted follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, faithfully serving Him through First Baptist Church of Alamance for nearly 50 years. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. Secondly, ‘Paw’ was a faithful husband to his wife Eva Mae, and a dedicated father to his children. After working at Western Electric during the day, he would come home, help fix supper for the family, then go down to his shop where he did repair work for the Camera Corner, often late into the evening hours. That, along with being a father to his three children, made for a very busy life. And he rarely missed a church service with his beloved church family.
He also loved working on small engines, being known by many as “The Lawn Mower Man.” In fact, there wasn’t much ‘Paw’ couldn’t fix. He retired from Western Electric after 35 years.
David served in the United States Navy during World War II as a RM 3rd Class aboard the USS Jason for a period of three years, one month and one day.
After 54 years together, his wife, Eva, passed on to be with the Lord, and for 8 years he has been the husband of Faye Johnson Prichard of the home. Her children and his step-children are Faith Heidner and her husband, Hans, of San Antonio , Texas, Steve Johnson and his wife, Angel, of Haw River; and Mike Johnson and his wife, Renee, of Burlington. His step-grandchildren include Neils and Anja Heidner, Dylan, Leighton, and Tustin Johnson. They all cherished and loved their “Paw Paw.”
He is also survived by his twin brother, Jacob Prichard and wife, Eunice, of Graham, N.C.; brothers, Parks Prichard and his wife, Cindy, of Taylorsville, N.C., and Linden Prichard and his wife, Lois, of Hiddenite, N.C. ; sisters, Nell Jones of Black Mountain, N.C., Nora Johnson and husband, Jerry, of Statesville, N.C., and Lucy Combs of North Wilkesboro, N.C.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Minnie Ovella Prichard; brothers, Thomas Prichard, Bill Prichard, Bruce Prichard and Dan Prichard; and sisters, Pearl Moxley, Janie Lee Steele and Ann Upright.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington. At other times, they will be at the residence, 2936 Alamance Road, Burlington, N.C.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Alamance by the Rev. Daniel Gregory and Dr. Terry Prichard. The committal will be held immediately following the funeral service at Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Alamance, P.O. Box 190, Alamance, NC 27201.
