Grace Yvonne Rumley, 86, met her maker on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born February 26, 1936 to the late Isaac Herbert Warren and Mamie Josephine Gerkin of Alamance County.
Grace was preceded in death, by her husband of 68 years, Wallace Alton “Smokey” Rumley.
Grace was last employed with The Guilford County Senior Center in Gibsonville, which she enjoyed immensely. She felt her greatest accomplishment was to have loved and raised her four children with discipline, respect and honor. She was a master at making snow days special with snow cream, homemade popcorn, cocoa and hours of conversation around the wood stove. She was witty and feisty until the end and loved for being so. Grace was an avid reader, even after losing her eye sight, she continued to ‘read’ audibly. She would say to you, take care of your eyes, do not take your sight for granted. See the good, the positive and the blessings you have. Give thanks to God for your eyes and the beauty they allow into your life.
Grace is survived by her children R. Dale Rumley (Deb), Phyllis R. Estes (Mike), Maria R. Ingle (Jeff) and Reba R. Worley (Todd); grandchildren, Chris Estes, Nick Estes (Leslie), Alicia R. Massey (Caleb), Kayla Worley, Olivia Worley; great grandchildren, Lily Hamlett, Nolan Causey and Gabriel Massey and a sister Debbie King (Jim).
The Rumley family would like to thank the following people for loving and caring for our mom, we are eternally grateful and could not have done it without you all. Caregivers, Laverne Worley, Kim Purgar and Debbie Taylor. Authoracare, Toni Fellows and Beverly Herring.
The Funeral service for Ms. Rumley will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2023 in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home by Pastor Jacob Danieley, Pastor Darrell Massey and Pastor Caleb Massey with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
