MEBANE — Jerry Thomas “Jay” Florence, 65, died Wednesday, September 23, at Duke University Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was a native of Alamance County, an electrician and a member of Florence Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Florence and Hazel Bukner and brothers, Steve and Boyd Florence.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Carol Kimbro Florence; daughter, Shannon Leigh Bryant; stepdaughter, Rebecca Cook; stepson, Ricky Cook; grandchildren, Valerie May and Kaden Herbin and great-granddaughter, Serenity Whitt; sisters, Linda Lambert and Donna Scott; brothers, Sam Florence, Calvin Florence, Mark Bukner and Marty Bukner.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Florence Memorial Baptist Church where the family will be from 2-3 p.m. before the service. Pastor Jim Florence will officiate.
