HAMPSTEAD — Berta Smith Baldwin, age 85, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center.
She was born in Guilford County on Aug. 18, 1919, the daughter of the late Lacy Franklin Smith and Maggie Gerringer Smith . Remembered is her son, Franklin Alexander Baldwin who died in 1991.
Berta was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church in Burlington and was retired from Belk-Beck Department Store in Burlington as a buyer. She was a life long resident of Alamance County, until she moved to Wilmington in 1991 to be near her daughter.
Surviving is her daughter, Vicki Russell and husband, William, of Hampstead; her son, Ernie Barrett Baldwin and wife, Cathy, of Burlington; four grandchildren, Leigh Clark, Megan McCartney, Lacy Russell, and Corley Baldwin; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.
