Glenn Harding Shepherd


    BURLINGTON — Glenn Harding Shepherd, 91, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at the Hospice Home.
    He was born in Guilford County to the late George Joshua and Flora Danieley Shepherd and was married to the late Sarah May Shepherd. Glenn was a member of St. Mark’s Church where he also taught Sunday school for many years. He was a driver for Barnwell Brothers Trucking and retired from the Burlington Post Office as a letter carrier. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the “Flying Tigers” and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. Glenn never met a stranger and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
    He is survived by his children, Jeannette S. (Denny) Wagoner of Texas, Nancy S. (Buddy) Aldridge of Snow Camp, Walter G. Shepherd of Raleigh, Mary L. Shepherd of Burlington and Martha S. (Richard) Jacoby of Burlington; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sonia Mendez) Rollins and Roger Rollins of Texas, Danley Temple and Ridge Shepherd of Raleigh, Daniel Higgs of Charlotte, Jordan and Jake Jacoby of Burlington, Christina Aldridge of Snow Camp and Stacey Stallings of Snow Camp; great-grandchildren, Vicente Rollins, Jesse Warren, Aryn Goforth and Jenna Lamm; sisterin-law, Martha M. Barber of California; brother-inlaw, Richard A. May of Burlington; niece, Beth S. Hively of Tennessee; and nephew, Richard Barber of California. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Church by the Rev. Ben Bishop with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Church, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
