Allen Bayne Black
HICKORY — Allen Bayne Black of Hickory, died Feb. 10, 2005, at his residence.
Born May 17, 1922 in Gaston County, he was the husband of Harriet Galloway Black , who survives, and the son of the late Chesley Gray and Mae Allen Black . He was the retired owner of Blacks Mobile Homes and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, served in the invasion of Guam and Gaudalcanal Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 and Gideons International.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Chesley Black and wife, Selena, of Gastonia; a daughter, Baynette Black and husband, Steve Blanchard, of Gastonia; two stepsons, Jim Galloway and wife, Donna, of Fletcher and Carl Alan Galloway and wife, Betsy, of Lenoir; a stepdaughter, Ruthann Brawley and husband, Ed, of Raleigh; a grandson, Samual Black and fiancée Alicia Carden of Lowell; two granddaughters, Kara Reed and husband, Wayne, and Amber Blanchard, all of Gastonia; a grandson, Dryw Blanchard and wife, Amy, of Wingate; three granddaughters, Katelyn Marie Galloway of Fletcher, and Carleigh Brawley and Jannah Brawley, both of Raleigh; three greatgrandsons, Noah Reed and Connor Reed, both of Gastonia, and Benjamin Blanchard of Wingate; a brother, C.G. Black and wife, Janette of Crouse; and six sisters, Mary Beth Mosteller and husband, Johnny, of Hickory, Loreane Aderholt of Lincolnton, Elouise Phillips and husband, Bernard, of Cherryville, Betty Carter and husband, Bob, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Camilla Buff and husband, Jimmy, of Icard, and Faye Lackey and husband, Gene, of Hickory.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Elizabeth Saine Black ; a brother, Allan Black ; and a sister, Juanita Alexander.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert Shoffner, and the Rev. Bryan Ballard. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 48.
Visitation will be at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
