Edith Somers McPherson
    ELON, N.C. — Edith Somers McPherson, age 87, formerly of Milesville Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 6, 2009 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was a native of Caswell County and the wife of the late Elmer Joseph McPherson.
    Edith was a homemaker and worked side by side with her husband on their farm. She was a member of Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church and the Adult 4 Sunday School Class. Edith served in the WMU and also arranged the altar flowers in the church for over 50 years. She had many talents which included basket weaving, chair caning, sewing and making porcelain dolls. Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, neighbor and friend to all. Love characterized every avenue of her life.
    She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Myra Ann Loftis and her husband Richard, of Elon, Donna Stanton and her husband Dave, of Elon; son and daughter-in-law, Joe McPherson and his wife Aileen, of Elon; seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren; sister, Maggie Somers Hogan of Caswell House of Yanceyville; sisterin-law, Mary Lou Ingle and her husband John, of Mebane and several nieces.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Joseph McPherson; parents, Roy J. and Lola Simmons Somers.
    A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Marvin Simpson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home of her daughter, Myra Loftis, 1190 Massey Road, Elon, N.C. 27244.
    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Anderson Fire Department, c/o Tony Dabbs, 140 Dabbs Farm Road, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.
