Brian "Ray" Hockaday
October 5, 2023

Mr. Brian Ray Hockaday, 65, of Burlington, passed away on Thursday October 5th, 2023 at New Hanover Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, Ray spent most of his life living in Graham with his family. He was the son of the late Bill Hockaday and Helen Little of Burlington, who survives. Ray was a retired Finish Carpenter as well as a jack of all trades. He was a graduate of Williams High School Class of ’76 and attended UNC Greensboro. As an avid outdoorsman, he was happiest when fishing, camping, and watching his kids play sports. Another favorite of Ray’s was the annual golf trips with his buddies. He also coveted his trips with his wife, Beth, and family to Oak Island every year.

Survivors include one daughter, Morgan Hockaday; step-daughter, Mary Catherine Stamey; his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Hockaday; sister, Kelly Hollander and husband Mark Hollander; nephews, John and Robert Hollander; and niece, Ellen Hollander.

He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Parker Hockaday and father, Bill Hockaday.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 15th, 2023 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington with the family receiving friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
