John Putnam


    BURLINGTON — John Weldon Putnam, age 76, of 2701 Durham St., passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mary Evans Putnam and the son of the late Cecil Edgar Putnam and Myrtle Loy Putnam. He attended Peoples Memorial Christian Church, and was retired from Culp Inc. He was an avid race fan and was known as a good paint and body man, having worked for the Petty family, Gate City Motors, Atwater and Stearns Ford and Associated Transport.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Evans Putnam of the home; daughters, Gail Young and husband, Jeffrey, of Graham, Karmel Massey and husband, Doug, of Elon, Judy Tillotson and husband, Arthur, of Elon, and Tammy Cobb of Burlington; son, John Weldon Putnam Jr. and wife, Jan, of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Candida Gutierrez, Nikki Peterson, Brandi Putnam, Michael Tillotson, Maggie Massey, Kelli Putnam and John Robert Putnam; great-grandchildren, Matthew Peterson and Natalie Peterson; brother, Elmer Putnam of Burlington; and sisters, Tracy Lucille Lassiter of Burlington, and Sylvia Allen of Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Steve Putnam and Edgar Putnam; and a sister, Doris Turner Johnson.
    The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John D. Shields. Entombment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Putnam will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service.
    The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and other times the residence.
