BURLINGTON — J. Donald “Don” McPherson, 62, of Burlington died on Tuesday October 6, 2009 at the Hospice Home of Burlington following two years of declining health.
A native of Graham, Don was the husband of Susie Gantt McPherson and the son of John Lee and Betsy Starr McPherson, both deceased.
An avid athlete and sports fan, Don was a graduate of Graham High School, a football scholar and student government leader of Frederick College in Virginia, and graduate of Elon College. He was a former member of the Graham High Boosters, Jaycees, and First United Methodist Church in Graham and worked in corporate sales and subcontracting for many years.
In addition to his wife Susie, of the home, Don is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Wells and husband Doc, of Concord; son, Jay McPherson and wife Julie, of Mebane; son, Holt McPherson and wife Amie, of Greenville; sister, the Rev. Beth Crissman and husband the Rev. Kelly Crissman, of Graham; brother, Worth McPherson
and wife Debbie, of Graham; one grandson, Joseph McPherson, of Mebane; and stepmother,
Betty Rolff McPherson of Etowah. Don is also loved and will be missed by his aunts, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday October 19, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham with the Rev. Kelly Crissman officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
