Anne Vickers Shotwell
ROXBORO — Anne Vickers Shotwell, of 5575 Boston Road, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Grover Cleveland Vickers and Betty Eberman Vickers Walker; and stepdaughter of the late George W. Walker Jr. and wife of the late James Fleetwood Shotwell. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Shotwell was an avid sports fan having coached midget girls’ and the Bethel Hill High School Girls Basketball team. Mrs. Shotwell was previously employed by the Person County Social Services and Agricultural Cooperative Extension Service in the field of nutrition as well as John Umpstead Hospital as a caregiver. Mrs. Shotwell retired from the Durham County Community Living Program as a group home manager.
Mrs. Shotwell is survived by three sons, James Fleetwood and wife, Linda Shotwell Jr. of Murfreesboro, Larry Nichols and wife, Edna Shotwell, of West End, and Donald Hubert and wife, Janis Shotwell, of Roxboro; two daughters, Marcia S. and husband, Jim Slaughter, of Durham and Susan S. Buchanan of Burlington; one brother, Bill Vickers of Banning, Ca.; one sister, Polly Young of Tybee Island, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Todd Sanders, Beverly and Pat Rogers, Nick Shotwell, Matthew Shotwell, Natalie and Al Ray, Angie Shotwell, Justin Shotwell, Tracey Slaughter, Whitney Slaughter, and James Buchanan; four great-grandchildren, Emily Sanders, Caroline Sanders, Gentry Rogers, and Logan Shotwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church by Father Harmon Smith. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
