James  "Ernest" Crabtree 
    BURLINGTON — James  "Ernest" Crabtree , 88, of 5465 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 after several years of failing health.
    He was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery Corp. where he worked much of his career in the Experimental Division helping to develop new hosiery manufacturing techniques and do design and set up work on machinery. He also ran Crabtree  Store for over 50 years and was in the antique business upon his death.
    He was a life-long member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church and was a Scoutmaster and advisor to the Mt. Hermon Community Boy Scout Troop for a number of years. He was an avid supporter of community baseball and was a life-long resident of the Mt. Hermon Community.
    Mr. Crabtree  was the son of the late James  Alfred Crabtree  and Netta Coble Crabtree .
    He is survived by his wife, Minnie Lucille Isley Crabtree  of the home; a son, James  Teddy Crabtree  and his wife, Lisa, of Burlington; two grandchildren, Dwain Kyle Shatterly of Winston-Salem and Rhonna Shatterly DeMann of Indian Beach, N.C.; and a brother, Joe M. Crabtree  of Graham.
    He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Elaine Shatterly of Burlington, in 1998; over a period of several years by his brother Dewey L. Crabtree  and sisters Clara Allison, Mildred Coble, Mable Curtis and Nina Justice, who all lived in the Mt. Hermon Community.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 at McClure Funeral Chapel in Graham, with a brief burial service to follow in the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Joe Wilburn, pastor of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, will be
    The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday. Other times, they will be at the residence.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215. Or they may be made to the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4178 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, Graham, N.C. 27253.
