George R. Summers
GIBSONVILLE — George R. Summers, 77, of 6427 N.C. 61 North passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Mamie Byerly Summers and was born September 23, 1932 in Guilford County to the late J.H. and Lydia Shepherd Summers. George was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church and retired from the Guilford County Prison System. He was a volunteer fireman for 22 years at Station 28 and enjoyed farming and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of the home, daughters, Denese Foster of Gibsonville and Wanda (Robert) Simpson of Altamahaw; grandchildren, James Matthew Whitted, Karen Renae Dudley, William Edward Whitted; greatgrandchildren, Jenna Grace Dudley, Jacob Gray Dudley; sisters, Mae Lewis of Gibsonville and Ruby Huffines of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willie “Bill” Summers and Vance “Jack” Summers.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 25 at Friedens Lutheran Church cemetery by the Rev. William Zima II.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 24 at Friedens Lutheran Church and at other times at the home.
