Joseph Gordon Whitsett 


    WHITSETT  — Joseph Gordon Whitsett , 86, of Whitsett  passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonville, N.C., where he was a life long member. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
    Joseph  was the youngest child of Dr. William Thornton and Carrie Elizabeth Brewer Whitsett  of Whitsett , N.C.
    He served with distinction as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps, graduated with honors from Elon College, and retired as an executive with Sears Roebuck and Co. after 46 years. In retirement, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the Greensboro Senior Golf Association.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Millicent Moore Whitsett , his youngest son, Joseph  Jr., two sisters, and a brother.
    He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. JoAnn Mintz and husband, Jay, of Advance, N.C. and Mrs. Libby Grubb and husband, Dr. Gene, of Summerfield, N.C., and one son Dr. William D. (Danny) Whitsett  and wife, Bonny, of Whitsett , N.C., six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
    Memorials may be made to the Kitchen Renovation Fund at Friedens Lutheran Church, 6001 NC 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249 3, Joseph Gordon Whitsett
