Obituary Online notes for Charles David JOBE
GREENSBORO - Mr. Charles David Jobe, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on February 21. He was born September 2, 1924 in Mebane, NC to the late Curtis and Nell Jobe.
Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during WWII. He was held as a POW in Germany for 15 months during the war. He was liberated by the Russians on May 3, 1945. Once he retuned to Greensboro, he loved to tell that the Germans didn't treat him badly because of his carpentry skills. They allowed him to work in the carpentry shop next to the blacksmith shop which provided him with heat to keep him warm. He received monthly Red Cross boxes which included a chocolate bar. Charles always chose to split his chocolate bar in half to share with a fellow German carpenter and his family.

After his release, while home on furlough, he married Betty Oliver, his home town sweetheart, who encouraged him through the wartime with her beautiful love letters. They were married for sixty-one years until her death in 2007. Charles started the Jobe family in the construction business in 1946 after completing his personal home. In the early 1960's he joined forces with Kelly Bowles forming Bowles-Jobe Construction. They began building fine homes on the lots that they acquired in New Irving Park area.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Oliver Jobe; sisters, Mettawee Jobe, Katherine Stewart, Melba Jobe and Juanita Coose.

He is survived by his children Gary Jobe (Karen), Theresa Millikin(Jeff) of LaGrange, IL and Betty Kaye Nandin of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Harrison, John Thomas and Brantlee Jobe; and Sam and Michael Nandin. Brother, Luke Jobe; sisters, Hazel Coose, Mary Wallace, Nancy Mahood, Ashlynn Roberts-Landreth and Brenda Loftis.
