Doctor Franklin Rudd Jr.
GRAHAM — Doctor Franklin Rudd Jr., age 84, of 718 Brookgreen Terrace died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one week of critical illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Doctor Franklin Rudd Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Rudd and was married for over 63 years to Ruth Tingen Rudd, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II.
Frank retired from the Burlington Industries Transportation Division after 37 years of service and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham for more than 50 years where he held many offices, including being in the Methodist Men and the Kentucky Work Team. He was also a member of the Tarheel Depression Glass Club and the B.I. Retirees Luncheon Group.
Mr. Rudd is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Linda Rudd (Mike) Ezzell of Graham,Teresa Rudd (Alan) Stacey of Graham and Cindy Rudd Sharpe of Gibsonville; a son, David Franklin Rudd of Waxhaw, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kimberly S. (Anthony) Chavis, Dina Edens High, Michael Alan (Lori) Stacey and Houston Powell “Tripp” Sharpe III; six great-grandchildren, Jarred, Devon, Cannon, Karoline, Carter and Jessalyn; one great grandchild, Khylen; special best friends, Millard Denson, Ben Tyler and Wayne Pace; caregivers, Rosa Wood, Todd McGuire, Benny Brown and Roy Burnette; along with many nieces, nephews and great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Robena R. Horner, Annie R. Riddle, Lessie R. Baldwin, Swannie R. Campbell, Addie R. Matherly and Nettie R. Shepanski; and four brothers, W. Russell Rudd, Charlie W. Rudd, Harvey “Bud” Rudd and Gilbert L. Rudd.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Graham by Dr. Ken Hall Sr., the Rev. Jim Folks and the Rev. Jeanne Neal. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.
