BURLINGTON - James David Barnwell, age 82, died Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Burlington, NC, Jim was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post 11.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Wednesday, December 12th at 2:00 pm at the Eastern North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Family members will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, Cures for the Colors C/O SMOC 203 Cox Blvd, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

James David Barnwell, age 83, died Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Burlington, NC, Jim was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post 11. He was the son of the late Thomas Yancey Barnwell and the late Andrea Frances Cornelia Pleasant Barnwell and was also preceded in death by a son in law, Johnnie Poandl.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary “Betsy” Barnwell; three children, Belinda Gail Barnwell Hall and husband, Wayne; Bobby Lee Barnwell; and Donna Marie Barnwell Poandl; a brother, Curry Barnwell; four grandchildren, Shannon Marie Poandl Kidd and husband, D.J.; Stephanie Ann Poandl; Andrea Hall Gallion and David Hall.
