Mr. R. F. Councilman, 81, of 1113 Sherwood Drive, Burlington, N.C., formerly of the Carolina Community, died Thursday, September 5, 2019.
A resident of Oak Island and Burlington, N.C., he was the husband of Janet Harden Councilman and the son of Royal and Odie Councilman.


He was a graduate of Pleasant Grove. He formerly worked with Alamance Motors, Cadillac Oldsmobile and Biscuitville. He was a member of Union Ridge Church since 1961 and served as a Deacon of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Councilman; step-son, Jonathan Weygandt; son, Rodney Councilman; and daughter, Stacey Butcher and husband Ryan; granddaughter, Foster Butcher; and grandson, Clay Councilman. Also surviving are two sisters, Eva Mae Holsonback and Ella Marie Murray and husband Tommy; and a brother, Randy Councilman and wife Pat, all from Burlington, N.C.
Mr. Councilman was predeceased in death by his parents, Royal and Odie Councilman; two sisters, Jackie Allred and Betty Day; and brother, David Councilman.
A service in celebration of his life will be conducted at Union Ridge Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The Reverend Dan Ficklin will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Ridge Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
