Martha Underwood Simmons


    BURLINGTON — Martha Underwood Simmons, 92, of 1525 Garden Circle, and formerly of 4615 Cherry Grove Road, passed away Friday, August 29, 2008, at her residence.
    Mrs. Simmons was born May 22, 1916, in Caswell County, to the late James Lee and Hattie Terrell Underwood. Mrs. Simmons was married to the late William W. Simmons, who passed away in 1994. Martha was a homemaker and was a longtime member of Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hall and her husband, Donald, of Burlington; a grandson, Kevin Michael Poole Sr.; a stepgranddaughter, Donna Hall Deaton; four great-grandchildren, Kevin Michael Poole Jr., Kaleb-Michael Poole, Jordan Andrew Deaton and Lindsey Paige Deaton; two sisters, Edna Underwood Miles of Burlington, and Lessie Underwood Davis of Greensboro.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Overby Underwood.
    A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Marvin Simpson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home.
