BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elsie Simmons Overman, age 89, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. Arrangements are incomplete with McClure Funeral Service in Graham.

Obituary
Mrs. Elsie Simmons Overman, 89 of Burlington, NC passed away on Thursday October 1, 2020 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. A native of Caswell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Porter and Minnie Terrell Simmons and the wife of the late George Clinton Overman. Over the years she attended Andrew’s Memorial Baptist Church, Baptist Temple and Riverdale Baptist Church. In her early years she worked in the textile industry with May Hosiery and Burlington Industries prior to working many years alongside her husband George at J&G BBQ as well as other family members. She took pride in her family and was always willing to put others needs above her own as she was known for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Survivors include her sons, Clinton Overman, Greg Overman and Donnie (Letha) Day; a step daughter, Mary Kay Andrews; grandchildren, Dan (Jamie) Barnwell, Maria Walker, Josh Williams, Kenneth (Michelle) Day, Brandon Kivette, Traci (Todd) Staley, Michelle (John) Davis, Brooke (Ryan) Blankenship, and Blake Overman; great grandchildren, Conner and Cameron Day, Chase Staley, Ava and Audrey Davis, and Colton, Hunter and Huntley Blankenship; brothers, Gilbert, Clifton, and Jimmy Simmons; sister, Mildred Davis and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband George, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Simmons and her sisters, Dorothy Herndon, Alice Harrison, Claudia Clayton, and Leona Mize. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday October 6, 2020 at the Alamance Memorial Park with the Pastor Stephen Hall officiating. Mrs. Overman will be open to the public for viewing on Monday October 5, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215. Online condolences may be made at www.mcclurefuneralservice.net
