Melissa  Louise Rudd Smithey 
    ELON — Melissa  Louise Rudd Smithey , 88, of 1050 N.C. 87 North, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005. She was a native of Randolph County, and the daughter of the late George Washington and Goldie Chandler Rudd . She was the wife of the late Samuel S. Smithey  Sr.
    She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elon, a long time choir member and a Sunday school teacher.
    She is survived by her son, Samuel S. "Sammy" Smithey  Jr.; grandchildren, Stephanie Smithey , Tina Turner and husband, Ricky; great-grandchildren, Noah and Austin Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, G.W. Rudd  Jr.; sisters, Linnie Aldridge, Lizzie Aldridge, Bessie Floyd, Mary Briggs, Byrd Smith, Hazel Ashley, and Adele Anderson; daughter-in-law, Faye Dodson Smithey .
    The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Elon by the Rev. Mark Mofield and the Rev. W.T. Cockman. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home, and other times at the son’s home, 1242 Dogwood St., Burlington.
    Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elon, 621 East Haggard Ave., Elon, N.C. 27244.
