Doris Smith Nixon
YANCEYVILLE – Doris Marie Smith Nixon, 85, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 30, 1931 in Caswell County to the late Willie Graves Smith and Martha Byrd Rudd Smith and was married to the late James Richard Nixon who died in 2009.
Doris retired from Burlington Industries after 30 plus years of service.
She was a member of Oakview Presbyterian Church in Yanceyville and she enjoyed volunteering with the Ruritan Club and with Hospice.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly “Kim” and David Dail; grandchildren, Garrett Dail and Britney Dail; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and David Wells; brothers and sister-in-law, Cecil and Linda Smith, and Kenneth Smith; sisters-inlaw, Shirley, Pete, Carol, Juanita, Jane and Patsy Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Allen, Billy, George, Johnny, Donald “Jim” and Ralph “Gary” Smith.
The family would like to thank her sitters, Sandy Smith, Angel Smith and Sandra Chilton.
Also the nurses and staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their kind and compassionate care.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 at Oakview Presbyterian Church by Layman Dwight Chandler with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the daughters’ home.
