Charles Douglas “Doug” Overman
WHITSETT — Charles Douglas “Doug” Overman, 89, of Whitsett went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at the Hospice Home after two years of failing health. He was born in Guilford County to the late Charles William and Mamie Boone Overman and was the husband for 64 years to Betty Louise Jones Overman, who survives.
Doug was an Army World War II veteran and a lifelong member of the Gibsonville VFW. He was employed as a cabinet maker with Bobby Murrell Construction Company, where he later retired, and owned the Flea Mart in Gibsonville for 15 years. Doug was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Trudy Overman Greeson and husband Ronald S. of Whitsett; a grandson, Ronald Douglas Greeson and wife Christine W. of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Sydney Greeson and Christian Greeson, both of Charlotte; a sister, Frances Busick of Mebane; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Cheek, Ethel Overman, Edna Overman, Marjorie Overman and Lahoma Clapp; and brothers, Clyde Overman and Clifton “Pete” Overman.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Donald Overman and the Rev. Jonathan Marlow with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of the daughter.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Hospice Home staff and also to Dr. Timothy Gollan and Dr. Don Chaplin.
