MEADOWVIEW, Va. — Mr. Lonnie A. Kidd, 88, of 29495 Tobias Drive, Meadowview, Va., died at his residence on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:20 a.m.
A native of High Point, N.C., he was the husband of the late Grace Troxler Kidd and Audra Reynolds Kidd, who survives, and the son of Lonnie Herbert Kidd and Mary Brown Kidd, both deceased. His first wife, Grace, was an accomplished pianist and organist and served at Northside Presbyterian Church in that capacity.
Mr. Kidd grew up in Burlington, N.C. and graduated from Graham High School. He entered the Army in October of 1942 and spent an extended amount of duty with the field artillery in the European Theatre. He transported numerous misplaced personnel at the conclusion of the war and was discharged December, 1945. Upon leaving the service, Mr. Kidd worked in the construction trade, first in general construction and later became a heavy equipment contractor.
In addition to his wife, Audra, survivors include a son, David Adrian Kidd and wife Susan of Meadowview, Va.; two sisters, Alice Emory of Greensboro, N.C. and Jerolene K. Nall and husband George of Burlington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Daniel Adrian Kidd and Wesley David Kidd; four stepchildren, Jim Mitchell and wife Jenny, Linda Piazza and husband Joel, John Mitchell and wife Gail, and Joe Mitchell; seven stepgrandchildren, Clay Mitchell, Joel Jr. Piazza, Christina Piazza, Kelly Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell, Autumn Mitchell, and Brad Mitchell.
A graveside service will be conducted at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, N.C. on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jim Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington, N.C. on Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service. At other times they will be at the residence of a sister, Jerolene K. Nall, 1908 Wilkins Street, Burlington, N.C.
