" LAWRENCEVILLE -- Charles R. Cregar, 73, passed away Friday at home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Stewartsville, he spent most of his life in Ewing and most recently in Lawrenceville.
He was a graduate of Phillipsburg NJ High School and the U.S. Naval School as a radar man class A.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served four years in the Naval Reserve.
He was a well known area auto dealer for over 50 years. He owned several dealerships, the most recent being Cregar Motors in Princeton and CR Cregar and Son in Lawrenceville. He was a very popular race car driver at many local tracks. He was one of the first members of NASCAR and raced at Darlington and Daytona Beach. He was a member of the Trenton Elks Lodge #105 and regularly attended church services at the First Presbyterian Church of Ewing. He enjoyed hunting, boating and was an avid fisherman. He was an excellent captain making numerous trips up and down the intercoastal waterways.
Son of the late Albert and Fannie Fenwick Cregar, he is survived by his wife, Doris McIntyre Cregar; a son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Eilleen Cregar of Ewing; a sister Etta Searfoss of Pen Argyl, PA; two grandchildren, Cale Cregar and his fiancee Lauren; Misty Leigh Russo and her husband Daniel Russo; two great-grandchildren, Kailey and Brianna; and he thought of him as a son, Robert J. Turner of Pennington"
