Elna Dare Southard Kernodle
BURLINGTON — Dare Southard Kernodle, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 19, 2015. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late Thomas Vestal Kernodle.
Dare was employed for many years in Textiles. She was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a Training Union teacher. Dare was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Hilda McKinney and her husband, Johnny of Burlington; sons, Thomas Kristen Kernodle and his wife, Jean of Burlington, Darrell Lee Kernodle and wife, Tammy of Graham; grandchildren, Jason (Ragen) McKinney, Jeffrey (Alix) McKinney, Amber (Kyle) Strunk and Clint (Michelle) Kernodle; greatgrandchildren, Michael Nicosia, Cooper McKinney, Eli McKinney, Sophia Strunk, Aaron Yarboro and Wyatt McKinney; sisters, Rebecca Mann, Edna Mc-Clure and Glenda Gillispie all of Burlington and Betty Walker of Beaufort, NC and Bonnie Alcon and husband, Jim of Otway, NC; sister-inlaw, Betty Hensley of Elon, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Walter Lee and Mable McIntyre Southard and a granddaughter, Kristie Yarboro.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at noon at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by her sister, Bonnie Alcon and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:45-11:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home and other times at the home of Hilda and Johnny McKinney.
