GREENSBORO — Alma Jewel Westbrook Daniels, age 88, of W. Northwood Street went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Wesley Long Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was a native of Wayne County and the wife of the late Henry Howard Daniels.
Alma was a caregiver for many years and a member of First Baptist Church of Elon. She was a member of the TOPS Club, an avid flower gardener and she enjoyed playing the piano by ear.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Hurley Hinshaw of Cedar Square; son and daughter-in-law, Bill "Tinker" and Judy Daniels of Danville, Va.; grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Harold Lee Daniels Jr. and his wife, Dr. Jean Daniels of Jonesboro, Tenn., Gregory Daniels and his wife, Amy of Elon, Penny Daniels Hite and her husband, Jimmy of Danville, Va., Kim Daniels Shomali of Providence, Kim Hinshaw Beeson and her husband, Robert of Cedar Square; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Estelle Griffin of Salisbury; brothers and sister-in-law, Frank and Helen Westbrook of Elon and Odell Westbrook of Gibsonville; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Harold Lee "Smiley" Daniels; parents, Nathan Luther and Nora Britt Westbrook; sisters, Minnie Westbrook, Inez Herring and Clara Bordeaux; brothers, Cleo, Granger and Daniel Westbrook.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Ennever and the medical staff of the third floor at Wesley Long Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Eric Woods and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:15 until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Square Friends Meeting, 7546 Harlow Road, Archdale, N.C. 27263.
