BURLINGTON Roberta Roeske (née Vonasek) of Burlington, NC, died peacefully on August 30, 2021 at the age of 82 after a sixmonth battle with smallcell lung cancer.Roberta is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Barbara Seibold of Graham and Scott Roeske of Charlotte; grandchildren, Morgan Robinson and Ashley Kernodle; and great grandson, Easton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph andHenriettaVonasek and her twin brother, Robert Vonasek.Roberta was born on September 7, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Rudolph and Henrietta. During high school, Roberta metWally Roeske, the love of her life, who she married in 1958. The couple had two children, Barbara and Scott before relocating from Illinois to Raleigh, NC and eventually Alamance County. Roberta’s children remember her as a loving and patient mother, who encouraged them to follow their dreams and supported them in every way. Roberta was always proud of her children’s accomplishments, but her proudest moment was in April of this year when her first great grandchild was born. Visits from Easton always brought her great joy and reinforced her desire to fight for life.Roberta’s favorite hobby was traveling around theworldwithWally. When in town, Roberta loved visiting friends and she was known as a loving and caring friend to all. Even during her illness, Roberta was often found walking to neighbors’ houses to visit her friends. She volunteered at the ARMC gift shop for over 20 years as well at MemoryCare andThe Swan’sNest at TwinLakes. She attended services at Elon Community Church as her health allowed. Everywhere she went, Roberta made friends and brought happiness to those she met.No date has been set yet for Roberta’s Celebration of Life Service. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Alamance County. The family would like the thank their friends as well as the staff at the ARMC Cancer Center and Hospice for their love and support during Roberta’s illness. 3, Roberta Roeske
