GREENSBORO - Mr. Calvin Thomas Harden, 89, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord, on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Calvin was preceded in death by his one true love Hilda Stadler Harden, his oldest son, Gordon Lee Harden, son-in-law John Lewis Blakley, brothers John "Bud" Harden and infant Ralph Milton Harden.
Calvin was born on Thursday, December 1, 1921 in Gibsonville, NC, to the late John Milton and Nannie Massey Harden. He was a 1939 graduate of Pleasant Grove School in Alamance County. Calvin worked for Flowers Baking Company (formerly Sunbeam Baking Co.) in Greensboro as their mechanical fleet supervisor for more than 30 years. He was a hard-working man with excellent morals and strong family pride.
He is survived by daughters Katina Harden Blakley of Rockingham, NC, Elizabeth Harden Cockrell and husband Norman of Greensboro; son, Rodney Alan Harden of the home; daughter-in-law, Shirley Lookabill Harden of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jeffrey Thomas Harden and wife Erica of Greensboro, Kimberly Harden Wicker of Greensboro, Alanna Blakley Young and husband Donavan of Rockingham, NC, Mark Alan Harden and wife Christie of Greensboro, Chad Matthew Blakley of Rockingham, NC, and Christina Diane Rice of Greensboro; two sisters, Rebecca Harden Webster of Yanceyville, Ruth Harden Aldridge of Burlington, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd, Greensboro, NC 27407.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Ronald O. Smith officiating. Interment beside his beloved wife will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
