Billy J. Oakley
BURLINGTON – Mr. Billy J. Oakley, 78, of Burlington died at Duke University Medical Center on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 8:20 a.m.
A native of Caswell County, he was the loving husband of 56 years to Linda M. Oakley, who survives and the son of Walter Kitchen Oakley and Ida Terrell Oakley, both deceased.
Mr. Oakley was a graduate of Anderson High School and LaSalle University. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and retired from Dan River Mills with 42 years of service. He raised animals, went to auctions, loved bluegrass music and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Oakley attended Rock Creek United Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a son, Keith Oakley and wife Christina of Rockwall, TX; two grandchildren, Tiffany Freeze and husband Josh and Kayla Oakley and fiancé Matthew Mabe, all of Burlington; two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Charleigh Freeze; four brothers, Obie Oakley, Therman Oakley, Walter “Ike” Oakley and Bob Oakley; two sisters, Grace Baker and Eva Isoms; and two dogs, Oscar and Molly.
Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Oakley and Pete Oakley and three sisters, Annie Mae Bradford, Martha May and Frances Tatum.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at Rock Creek United Methodist Church on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Tyler Moore and Rev. Richard Booker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
