Mr. L .E. Martin 
    BURLINGTON — Mr. L .E. Martin , 96, of The Oaks of Burlington, 1670 Westbrook Ave., formerly of South Church Street, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and two months critical.
    A native of Danville, Va., he was the husband of the late Daphne Goodin Martin , and the son of the late James Lee Martin  and Dora Scarlett Martin . He was the retired owner of L .E. Martin  Oil Company and Garden Shop and was a member of Ireland Street Chapel, where he was formerly very active in the Sunday school program. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dianne Shatterly and husband, Eddie, of Burlington; a son, Mr. Ronald Martin and wife, Susan, of Atlantic Beach; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005 at Pine Hill Cemetery by Mr. Bobby Jack Martin .
    The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Diane Shatterly, 2414 Blanche Drive, Burlington.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
