Obituary Online notes for Johannes Nicholas MICHAEL “MICHEL”
Johannes Nicholas Michael, arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on the 9th of September 1738, with his oldest son, Johannes Frederick Michael, on the Ship Glasgow. No wife was mentioned in the passenger list. The ship Glasgow arrived Sept. 9, 1738, with 349 Palatinates imported, Walter Sterling, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes, England.

Johan Nickel Micahel and Johan Frid. Michael, who were males above the age of 16 years.

He was born April 24, 1696, in the Palatinate region of Germany, and was approximately 42 years old when he arrived in the Colonies. He had been married on Jan 31st, 1717, Niedershausen, Hesse, Germany, to Anna Elisabetha Lentz, she was born 1695 and died in 1731, in Germany.

He traveled with his son Christian Michael to the settlement in Rowan County, North Carolina. It is assumed he is buried at the Pilgrim Reformed Church Cemetery. His death year is 1781, in “Old Rowan County”; the area of the county that he resided is now known as Davidson County.

Dr. Adelaide L. Fries, a Moravian researcher, stated that Anson County was established in 1750. In 1753, it became Rowan County, and remained such until Davidson County, NC was created in 1822.
