Will
In the Name of God Amen
I Jacob Clapp of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina Being sick and weak of body, but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for man Once to die, do make and Ordain this to be my last will and Testament, in the following manner and form (Impromis) and first I bequeath my soul to God who gave it, my body I Recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my executor, and as touching such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me within this life I dispose of in the following manner and form
Item 1st I bequeath to my wife Eve the sum of five Hundred Dollars, with the Mansion house in which she now Resides with full privilege thereof during her Natural life, and also the use of my two Negro (Viz) Lewis & Batey to wait on her, and work on the farm as Occasion may Require, and I also bequeath to my wife all Our Beds & furniture and all other furniture belonging to the house, and all our Kitchen furniture, the above mentioned to belong to my wife during her Natural life and at her death to be equally divided Between my three Children (Viz) Mary Foust (consort of Daniel Foust) (She is now dead) her heirs Sarah Boon Wife of Lewis Boon and Joshua Clapp, with the exception of my Negro Man Lewis which is to belong to my son Joshua exclusively at his mothers death, If it cannot be divided satisfactory among them the property must then be exposed to sale to the highest bidder and the money arising from said sale to be equally divided among our three Children,
2nd Item I bequeath to the heirs of Mary Foust the sum of Ten Dollars, Verily believing that Daniel Foust and Mary his wife has had their proportionable part of my estate already
Item 3 I bequeath to Lewis Boon & his wife Sarah The sum of Ten Dollars Also believing that they have already had their proportionable Share of my estate
Item I bequeath to my son Joshua the Track of Land whereon I now live with every appurtenance thereunto belonging Or in any wise appertaining thereto
I do hereby nominate Constitute and appoint my son Joshua Clapp to be my whole and sole executor of this my last will and Testament, I do hereby revoke and disannul all other will Or wills heretofore by me made Or any Other executor or executors Radifying and Confirming this and no Other to be my last will and Testament in Testimony I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 7th day of November A D 1839
